People who shaped the vessel

OWNERS & ARCHIVES

Meander's history is best understood through the people who designed, built, sailed, refitted and preserved her.

1992–2009

Bob & Jean Grimson

Designer, builder and first long-term custodians. Their chapter covers Meander's conception in North Devon, launch at Watermouth, Atlantic life, the Bahamas and the evolution of her distinctive gaff-ketch rig.

2009–2019

Chris Phillips

A decade of Atlantic return, Scottish cruising, major repair and refit work, a new Beta engine, the 2015 Faroes expedition and increasingly single-handed voyaging.

Later custodians

2019 onward

Chris Phillips recorded the sale of Meander on 16 July 2019 to Peter and Maureen. The Nobby history identifies them as Peter and Maureen Hennessey and records Meander's move to the North West and Liverpool. Official 2021 Conwy River Festival results show Peter Hennessey helming Meander.

The Peter Bunting / Arklow episode remains a genuine archival lead whose exact place in the chronology has not yet been resolved. By June 2025 Meander was documented at Aberystwyth, where the modern chapter continues.

Archive principle: where ownership, dates or sequence remain uncertain, this site records the uncertainty rather than filling gaps with assumption.
